The weather

The driest month of the year, with rainfall around 35 mm and average highs near 32 °C. Nights stay warm and humid.

What's on

On 15 August, the Dekapentavgoustos, the city reaches its emptiest point: shuttered shops, empty streets, and large festivals in the Macedonian villages. Toward month's end the city begins to return as the trade fair approaches.

What to do

Paradoxically a good month to visit if you can take the heat: no queues at the monuments, cheaper accommodation and easy parking. Pair it with the sea, from Peraia down to Sithonia.

What to pack

Everything you'd bring in July, plus patience for closed shops around the 15th.
