Thessaloniki Metro

A guide to every station: what's around it, where to get off, and how to reach the airport.

The metro changed Thessaloniki more than any other project in decades. The main line opened on 30 November 2024, and on 27 August 2026 the Kalamaria extension followed, journeys that once took forty minutes in Egnatia traffic now take ten.

It is fully automatic and driverless, with platform screen doors. And because digging beneath a 2,300-year-old city inevitably turns up its history, some stations double as archaeological sites.

Note: the metro does not reach “Makedonia” Airport. Get off at the Mikra terminus and continue on bus line X3, which carries a special fare of €2.00, separate from your metro ticket.
