Thermi
Southeast of the city, Thermi is where Thessaloniki connects to the rest of the world. "Makedonia" Airport sits alongside it, and around it has grown a cluster of hotels, businesses and technology parks.
Character
An old settlement that grew quickly into a modern suburb. Quiet, green and organised around the motorway, more a place to stay and work than to sightsee.
What's here
- Hotels close to the airport, useful for early flights.
- Conference venues and business parks.
- Tavernas and cafés serving mainly locals, with good, unpretentious cooking.
Why stay here
It's the most sensible choice if you have an early-morning or late-night flight, or if you're continuing by road to Halkidiki without wanting to enter the city.
Getting around
By car or taxi; the centre is roughly 20–25 minutes away outside traffic.
Best for: flights, conferences, road trips toward Halkidiki.
